INSTRUCTIONS

Before

After

1.

Cut the jacket or coat in two, then work with the bottom half. Work with the bottom half.

2.

Turn the skirt inside out and pin the lining and the fabric together at the top. Unpick the stitching on the hem and the lining. Iron the fabric and flatten the side and front seams and the former hem fold.

3.

Place the fabric flat with the back centre line facing up.

4.

Measure your waist and hips and adjust the basic pattern as needed.

5.

Transfer the pattern onto the fabric.

6.

Pin the tucks, then sew and iron them with the surplus fabric towards the centre back.

7.

Pin and sew the new lines of the sides. Cut the surplus fabric 1.5 cm from the new line.

8.

Iron the seams open. Repeat these steps for the lining.

9.

Centre front, unpick all of the facing. Iron the seams. Place both at the front, right sides together, mark and cut 2 cm on the middle front in order to remove the double breast from your skirt.

10.

Cut a strip of white fusible interfacing the same length as the waist and 3 cm wide, then fuse to the inside of the waist to prevent the fabric from losing its shape.

11.

Pin the zip, right sides together, to the centre front of the mini-skirt. Leave a 1.5 cm seam allowance at the top and 4.5 cm at the bottom.

12.

Attach zipper foot “E” to your machine, select the straight stitch and sew. Repeat these steps for the other
side of the zip.

13.

Place your lining, right sides together, onto the skirt.

14.

Pin and tack the 3 sides of the skirt (the two centre front and the waist). The zip will be fixed between the two fabrics. Sew the three sides 1 cm from the edge.

15.

When you have finished sewing, cut the surplus fabric in the corners at an angle in order to obtain a neat line when the skirt is turned the right way out.

16.

Turn the facing inside out and hold in place with a tacking stitch. Iron. Turn up 3 cm at the bottom of the skirt for the hem. Iron and hand stitch in place.

17.

Lay your skirt flat. Turn up the underside of the lining 1 cm and iron. Pin the lining to the hem of the skirt 2 cm from the edge. Make sure that the lining is not pulling. Hand stitch the lining to the hem. If you do not have enough material to make a hem, you can sew a false hem.

Congratulations you have just completed your skirt!
