Place the fabric and lining of the pocket right sides together. Sew all the way round, 1 cm from the edge, leaving an opening so you can turn it the right way out. Turn the pocket right way out, close the opening with a hand stitch and iron it. Measure 3 cm from the top of the pocket and top stitch all along the length.
3.
Using thread, mark the centre of the sides of the bag with the floral and damask fabric.
4.
Also, along the width, mark the centre of the two bottom parts of the linen bag.
5.
On the floral side of the bag, 9½ cm from the bottom, position the pocket matching the centre points. Pin and sew the three sides a few mm from the edge.
6.
Place the two sides of the bag right sides together, pin and sew the sides, iron the seams open. Repeat the previous step with the linen lining.
7.
Pin the strip for the bottom of the linen bag, right sides together, matching the centre points.
On both sides of the bag. Sew 17½ cm from each side of the centre mark, reverse stitch to strengthen the end stitch. You must leave 1 cm on each side of the bottom strip. Repeat the previous step with the lining.
8.
At the edge of each reverse stitch, clip into the corners of the bag fabric at an angle so you can turn it and sew it on the sides of the bottom strip. Again, finish the corners with a reverse stitch.
9.
Place the lining inside the bag right sides together. Sew all around, 1½ cm from the edge, leaving an opening of about 10 cm to turn the bag out. Turn the bag right side out, tack all the way round pushing the lining ½ cm inside the edge. Sew the opening with a hand stitch. If you wish, you can top stitch all the way round a few mm from the edge. Iron.
10.
Turn up a seam of 1 cm on the linen straps, pin or tack, iron. Turn up a seam of 1.2 cm all the way round the floral fabric straps, pin or tack, iron.
11.
Place the floral and linen fabric straps on top of each other wrong sides together.
The floral fabric will be slightly inside (2 mm). Top stitch all the way round to hold them together.
.
12.
Mark your buttonholes at the ends of the straps. The first at 1½ cm
from the end, allow 3 cm between the two buttonholes.
13.
Sew the buttons 2 cm from the edge of the bag as shown in the diagram. Attach the straps.
You have just completed your shopping bag, congratulations !
